Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can we keep the fish if we catch one?
Absolutely. We will fillet it for you so you can take it home and enjoy it with your friends and family!
  • When is the best time of the year to catch swordfish?
Here in South Florida, we can fish for and catch swordfish year-round. Swordfish are migratory species, and they continue to migrate through South Florida.
  • Do you catch swordfish on every trip?
No. We usually average one fish per trip, but we have had trips with zero fish and trips with multiple fish.
  • How long are the swordfish trips?
We usually fish 8-10 hours a day.
  • How many rods will we fish while sword fishing?
We fish with 2 rods almost always. If conditions are not favorable, we might just go to one rod so we can really ensure we have the best possible chance to land a swordfish.
  • Do you catch anything else while sword fishing?
Yes. Mahi-Mahi is a very common by catch on the sword grounds in the spring and summer. We also catch various bottom species, like Pomfret, while sword fishing. We like to head straight out to the sword grounds and fish for swords as long as we can to give you the highest chance of landing a swordfish. While sword fishing, we can flatline a bait out of the back of the boat for any Mahi-Mahi swimming by and we can jig or toss bait out to fish swimming by with spinners.
  • What baits will we use to target swordfish?
We like to use a mixture of artificial and natural baits.
  • How deep do you fish for swordfish?
We can fish anywhere from 1200’ to 2000’ of water targeting swordfish.
  • How far do we travel to get to the swordfish grounds?
We will travel anywhere between 20-45 miles one way to get to desired spot. While we are fishing, we will be monitoring bait on the screen, and we may move from one area if there is no bait and travel to another area where we can mark bait on the bottom to increase the chances of landing a swordfish.
  • What should we bring on our trip?
Bring snacks, water, soda, sunblock, foul weather gear, sneakers or closed toe shoes and a camera to capture all the incredible memories you will make. You can also bring a small cooler, if you do not have a cooler, you can place your drinks in our cooler.
  • Do I tip after the charter?
Yes, a 20% tip is customary on fishing charters.
